How do Lessons work?

  • We find a lesson time that works and students commit to that time slot for the duration of the school year.
  • All students take weekly lessons – 30 minutes to start.  As students progress, lesson time increases.
  • In addition, all students participate in the group class for their age level.  Group classes occur once every three weeks, more or less.  Group is mandatory and students who don’t attend, don’t play at the group concerts (the exception is that all students are invited to play in the end-of-year recital.)
  • The lesson schedule follows the school calendar and families pay a flat fee monthly for 10 months.  The fee is based on the number of lessons and groups in the year.
  • Parents of children under 10 years are expected to stay in the lesson to take notes.  This parent will be the home practice teacher – the third member of the Suzuki Triangle:  Teacher, Student, Parent.  Parents don’t need to know anything about music. I’ll teach them!
